While Spier as a business is focused on social justice, we wanted to offer our staff an opportunity to experience community contribution in a more tangible way.
The Social Investment Committee was set up with the following objectives:
- To create and nurture a sense of giving within the Spier community of employees
- To harvest and transfer the skills and talents of our staff in order to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged
- To enthuse staff, and enable them to volunteer their resources
Each financial year, Spier sets aside a budget, and the committee directs philanthropic projects according to a focus defined by the group. The principal focus of these projects is HIV/AIDS orphanages, child-headed households, and economic and social development in and around the communities where Spier staff live. As a result, Spier’s staff members across the businesses are taking responsibility for community upliftment, becoming part of Spier’s social justice efforts.
