An Afro- barbeque smokehouse and an artisanal bakery.

The Hoghouse BBQ & Bakery in Spier’s historical Jonkershuis. Patrons can dine on the front stoep overlooking Spier’s sun-dappled Werf or can sit on the all-weather terrace at the back, where “The Hog” smokes meats the low-and slow way for up to 16 hours. From here they can also watch the baker pulling breads out of the wood-fired masonry oven, or conjuring up delicious treats, including the house specialty, pasteis de nata. On chilly days, blazing log fires keep things snug inside.

Chef PJ Vadas’s barbeque-focused lunch and dinner menu includes flavoursome grass-fed beef, pork, lamb and free-roaming chicken supplied by Spier’s Farmer Angus. Accompanied by tasty sides – such as roasted beetroot or cheese-drenched broccoli – the meats are perfectly paired with Spier wine or Hoghouse’s craft ales. Desserts include tarts and artisanal gelatos. In addition to fresh bread and pastries (which can also be pre-ordered 48 hours in advance), the Hoghouse shop stocks locally handmade homeware and tasty treats like jams and nougat to take home.

Wednesday - Saturday: 11.00 – 23.00 (lunch and dinner with kitchen closing at 21.00)

Sunday – Tuesday: 11.00 – 16.00 (kitchen closes at 15.00) Get in touch beforehand to find out about extended operating hours.

Opening hours from 18th December 2017 to 7 January 2018: 
Monday – Saturday - 11am – 11pm (Lunch & Dinner, kitchen closes @ 9pm) 
Sunday – 11am – 4pm (lunch only).
Hoghouse is closed on Christmas Eve, 24th December (closed for dinner only), Christmas Day, 25 December and on New Year's Eve, 31 December (closed for dinner only).
