"Spier shows sustainability can mean financial success."

Hotel

The spacious Spier Hotel lies besides the calming waters of the Eerste River. The rooms are situated in village-style buildings grouped around six private courtyards, each with its own swimming pool in a design reminiscent of the Bo-Kaap or Mediterranean villages where pedestrians have right of way.

Rolling lawns, gardens and walkways connect the rooms with the reception area, lounge, bar, terrace and restaurant.  The décor features a sophisticated, vibrant style with strong colours, patterns and textures that echo nature’s designs, and a collection of art that explores contemporary South African culture.

The hotel was one of the first in South Africa to be awarded the Fair Trade in Tourism SA accreditation in 2004. In 2007, Spier won a Condé Nast Traveler World Saver Award, receiving third place in the overall destination category, and an honourable mention in the HIV/AIDS category. In 2011, Spier won the Doing it All category in the Condé Nast Traveler World Savers awards. Spier won the top award in the Poverty Alleviation category and came second in the Environmental Preservation category, and along with the honourable mention received in the Health and Education categories, this resulted in our overall win. The Spier Hotel has also recently won a Gold at the Virgin Holidays Partners in Sustainability Award.
