Harvest-Celebration—2025-16

We’re delighted to share some really good news: Spier has been honoured in the Ethical category and received a commendation in the Sustainability category at the inaugural 2025 Drinks Business Asia Green Awards.

The awards, presented by The Drinks Business Asia at ProWine Hong Kong, are a significant milestone. This new programme, launched in partnership with ProWine to mark 15 years of The Drinks Business Green Awards, celebrates companies and individuals in the beer, wine and spirits industries who are putting a green agenda at the heart of their business. The recognition extends beyond production to encompass the entire value chain – from sustainable farming practices to ethical community engagement.

As one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms, we’ve faced a microcosm of the challenges and opportunities over the years. Naturally, with growth comes growing pains, yet with every challenge, we discover new ways to thrive and innovate.

Our 2024 Collective Impact Report highlights how our regenerative practices have become second nature: transforming over 1,000 tonnes of organic waste into compost, recycling 49,486 kilolitres of water for irrigation, and maintaining our third consecutive year of zero waste to landfill. Even chicken feathers find new life as carbon-building ground cover in our organic vineyards.

But perhaps what we’re most proud of is how sustainability flows through our people, much in thanks to our Growing for Good initiatives: 769 on-site clinic consultations offering staff accessible healthcare directly on the farm, more than 140 children receiving support through education, school supplies and afterschool care, and 4 700 trees bartered for essentials through our Tree-preneurs programme. Using regenerative methods, our food garden produced 13,870kg of vegetables, with 10,029kg donated to local feeding schemes.

For over three centuries, we’ve believed that good wine comes from good people, grown in good soil. This double recognition – winning the Ethical category and being commended in Sustainability – reaffirms that belief, and we share it with you, our guests, customers and partners, whose continued support allows us to grow with purpose.
