10 Reasons To Stay The Night At Spier
DECEMBER 08, 2016
From art and the great outdoors to our acclaimed wine and food, there’s so much to enjoy at Spier. To experience as much as possible when you visit, stay the night in our luxurious farm hotel. Its airy, art-filled rooms offer the perfect base from which to explore the estate.
- Feast on farm-to-table freshness: Eight offers hearty farm-style food inspired by the seasons, and lovingly made with ingredients sourced from the farm or close by.
- Picnic on the lawn: Find a shady spot under the oaks for a delicious picnic (you can pre-book a hamper here, or pick up treats from Eight to Go on the day).
- Tuck into a BBQ: Soak up views of the Werf as you tuck into PJ Vadas’s “low-and-slow” smoked meats and delicious sides – washed down with craft beer – at Hoghouse BBQ and Bakery.
- Taste success: Sample our award-winning vintages in the airy Tasting Room, expertly paired with tasty snacks. Then stock up on your favourites and an array of wine accessories.
- Glide across the farm: Our Segway PT tours take you on an exhilarating journey past vineyards, pastures and indigenous gardens. En route, you’ll learn about Spier’s sustainable farming methods.
- Soar with eagles. OK, maybe not quite with them. You can still get up really close and personal with them, though, at Eagle Encounters, our raptor rehabilitation centre which offers daily flying displays
- Get your art fix: Home to one of the largest collections of contemporary South African pieces, art is everywhere at Spier, from installations on the Werf, in the Manor House, Hotel and Wine Tasting Room. You can even buy one of your own Creative Block masterpieces from the Tasting Room.
- Find your stocking fillers: The craft market showcases covetable wirework, woodcarving, jewellery design, textile and ceramic art. The Spier Shop at the hotel also has a gorgeous selection of ethically and locally sourced homeware and fashion.
- Discover history: The historical VoiceMap Gables audio tour takes you on a fictional journey based on the reality of life on a farm in the Cape Winelands in the early part of the 19th century.
- Leave the kids in good hands. Whatever you get up to on the farm, you can have full peace of mind knowing that your kids are being kept safe. Our little hotel guests can hang out under supervision at the Kids’ Clubhouse which also has a programme packed full of fun activities – including arts and crafts, stories, baking and farm walks.
