Acclaim For Spier's 21 Gables Range
2018 has seen acclaim both at home and abroad for Spier 21 Gables. The flagship range honours Spier’s pioneering contribution to South Africa’s rich winemaking history – which dates all the way back to the 1700s.
At the Top 100 SA Wines in May, the 21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 won Double Platinum and (along with the Spier Woolworths Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2015) was the most highly rated red wine in the competition. Internationally, the wine received Platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards and Gold at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelle.
The 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2016 also continues to excel. In 2017 it was featured in the Standard Bank Top 10 Chenin Blanc Challenge and won Double Gold at the Veritas Wine Awards. This year, the wine received Double Platinum at the Top 100 SA Wines. At the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show in May it received the Harold Eedes Trophy for Best Chenin Blanc and was also given the Old Mutual Trophy for Best White Wine Overall.
“Balance and elegance are woven through each of these complex, complete and subtle wines,” says Spier’s cellar master Frans Smit. “We are delighted with these accolades because they recognise our passionate commitment to crafting quality wines that embody the Cape’s winemaking heritage.”
