The 2026 Veritas results are in, and our wines have earned us a second place overall. Twenty of our wines have earned Double Gold or Gold. The oldest was made in 2012 and the youngest in 2025. Now in its 36th year, Veritas is South Africa’s longest-running wine competition, with every wine judged blind. From 1 293 entries this year, the judges awarded 95 Double Golds and 196 Golds. Eight of those Double Golds and 12 Golds came home to Spier.
Recent releases, golden results
Three of our recent releases earned Double Gold: Spier Creative Block 2 2025, Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2024 and Spier 21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2021. Spier 21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2024 took Gold. Together, they give us a good reason to open something for the table, whether it’s a familiar favourite or a wine you’ve been meaning to try.
Good things take time
Five of our eight Double Golds went to Museum Class wines, judged years after bottling: independent proof of quality across our ranges, varieties and vintages. Among the Double Gold winners were magnums of Spier 21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2012, Spier Creative Block 3 2016 and Spier Creative Block 5 2017. Spier 21
Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2019 and Spier Creative Block 2 2022 also earned Double Gold. Welcome news for anyone with a bottle or two tucked away. These results also build on two previous Vertex trophy wins, awarded to the best wine entered at Veritas: Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2015 in 2017 and Spier Creative Block 5 2018 in 2021.
Our Chenin shines
Golden child Chenin Blanc led the Gold medals this year, totalling 17, and it features strongly in our results too. Alongside Double Gold for our 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2024, the 2019 and 2020 vintages both won Gold. These results follow Cellar Master Johan Jordaan’s recognition as Chenin Blanc Master Winemaker at the Master Winemaker 100 awards in 2025 and 2026. With Chenin as our signature grape, it’s especially rewarding to see these wines recognised.
