From the recent launch of our Food Garden (which is now open to the public daily and offering self-harvesting on Saturdays) you can get all the inspo you need to make your garden party even more magical.
First things first. Set the tone in style with your own LETTUCE HAVE LUNCH invite to send your guests (available here as a PDF for download).
Chilled out fruit. As the mercury climbs, keep fruit juices cool in an ice bath (a vintage metal pail is perfect). Sprinkle chunks of fruit on the ice cubes for pops of mouthwatering colour.
Organic awesomeness. An ice bath is also the ideal habitat for rosé and white wine. Our sommeliers recommend serving Spier’s The Yellowwood Organic range. Named in tribute to an ancient tree on our Werf (and SA’s national tree), these wines add a nice botanical touch (and are sublimely tasty too!).
Go green with the decor. Bring the garden to your table: forage for beautiful leaves, flowers and twigs to decorate your table. Believe it or not, a smattering of vegetables makes for striking ornaments too.
Turn up the heat. Nothing embodies summer in South Africa better than a braai. For the ultimate fiery feast, stock up on your favourite Farmer Angus cuts of pasture-reared meat (and his mouthwatering boerie) to grill over the coals – delicious alongside seasonal salad.
You can also use veggies such as red onion and carrots to turn a focaccia into an eye-catching edible artwork (this Italian-style bread is also the perfect way to mop up smashed avo guacamole). For dessert, keep things simple and sublime with skewered pineapples braaied over the dying embers.
