Miko grew up in Newcastle, KZN, and Sunny in Cape Town. They officially met each other about 5 years ago on a holiday trip to Shelley Point with a group of friends.
After deciding that they wanted a wine estate wedding, the search for the perfect venue started. According to Sunny, Spier’s friendly and helpful staff immediately impressed them and it soon became their top choice due to the beautiful setting and proximity to Cape Town.
For Miko, it is difficult to pinpoint one specific thing that they loved best. The wedding team lead by Hannes was excellent and managed to turn their vision into a reality in a very short amount of time. “The overall experience of our big day was great!” she recalls. From the ceremony at the River Deck to the dinner reception in the Conservatory, everything unfolded spectacularly. The food was superb and the variety of Asian-inspired as well as vegetarian dishes pleased all palettes.
In hindsight, was there anything that they would have changed? Miko laughs: “Yes, we probably should have planned the details of the wedding earlier than we did, because it did get really stressful during the last 10 days before the wedding!” But after a full day of celebrations, the couple enjoyed a relaxing night in a Spier Hotel suite. “It was very spacious, and the special turn down with rose petals and gifts from the Hotel made it extra special,” says Sunny.
One piece of advice they'd like to share with brides-to-be, is that one should make use of a wedding planner to offer professional advice and make all necessary arrangements. “All you need to do is get yourselves ready for the day. Not everything will go exactly as planned, so sit back, relax and remember to enjoy yourselves with your friends and family.”
