Premium Spier Wines Now Available In Cans
South Africa’s favourites — Sauvignon Blanc, rosé and Merlot — are now available from Spier in 250ml cans, each crafted by acclaimed Cellar Master Frans Smit and his team.
“These cans are where convenience and quality converge,” says Smit. “They’re terrific for on-the-go adventures and make for fantastic everyday fridge-fillers too.”
Indeed, wines in a can offer plenty of perks. Not only are they quick to chill — but they’re also light and save space: much easier, in other words, to stack, pack and carry than bottles (there’s also no risk of broken glass!). This makes them ideal for picnics, events or after a long hike. And there’s no reason for the connoisseurs to worry: these cans retain all the aromas and flavours that Spier’s bottled wines are renowned for.
The critics love them too! The Spier Canned Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and Spier Canned Rosé 2020 both recently received Gold at the prestigious Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards, while the Spier Canned Merlot 2018 received Silver.
It’s not just great tasting convenience that cans offer: they’ve got strong green credentials too.
“From recycling 100% of our wastewater and more than 98% of solid waste to becoming the first winery in the world to receive Control Union Vegan Standard certification, Spier has long championed sustainability,” explains Smit. “We’re constantly finding ways to tread more lightly on the earth, and our new range of cans forms part of that.”
So what gives these cans their green credentials? Well, as they’re made of aluminium, they’re infinitely recyclable; they also have a smaller carbon footprint than glass bottles.
“All in all, they’re a fantastic choice for the environmentally conscious drinker,” concludes Smit.
The summery Sauvignon Blanc offers gooseberries, passion fruit and green fig. The sophisticated Rosé has an abundance of strawberry, raspberry and apple blossoms while the Merlot is all about red berries, cherries and hints of mint.
The 250ml cans are an ideal size: like a carafe, they’re small enough to have on your own but they’re big enough to share.
These small formats are currently available from the Spier tasting room and online from R35 each.
