As a proudly South African winery, the 21 Gables range pays homage to the farm's 331-year winemaking heritage and unique architectural legacy.
Not to be outdone, the Creative Block range celebrates Spier's winemaking creativity with white and red Rhône- and Bordeaux-style blends crafted from specially selected vineyard blocks. Launched in 2004, the Creative Block takes its name from a pioneering Spier Arts Trust project that invites established and emerging artists to create work on a small blank canvas block. Each Creative Block is named after the number of varietals used to make up the blend, with the goal of reflecting a true sense of place.
A long-time leader in South African sustainability and recognised WWF-SA Conservation Champion, Spier was organically certified in 2015. With 20ha of organic vineyards, all the vines on the Spier farm are grown free of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertiliser. This approach forms part of Spier's Growing For Good initiative, empowering communities to make positive social and environmental changes. Today, Spier offers four award-winning organic ranges: The Yellowwood, First Stone, Farm House, and Good Natured. Selected the 'World's Most Ethical Winery' in 2023, Spier aims to reach a net zero carbon footprint by 2030.
"Since our inception, long before sustainability became a buzzword, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to working in harmony with nature. It's heartening to see that three of these medals are for our organic wines, which proves that investing in the land is rewarding in more ways than one,” shares Spier's Managing Director, Frans Smit.
Spier wines can be tasted and purchased at the farm in Stellenbosch, online at shop.spier.co.za and are widely available at leading retailers and retailers globally.
