Street Art At Spier Train Station Spotlights Importance Of Wine And Hospitality Industries
A mural by street artist Ello Xray Eyez on the walls of the train station opposite the farm entrance offers a powerful reminder of the importance of wine and hospitality to the Western Cape economy. Both sectors have been hit hard by the pandemic.
Striking illustrations are accompanied by #IAmTourism, #DrinkSouthAfrican and #JobsSaveLives — hashtags that have gone viral recently. The prominent display of these hashtags aim to emphasise the significant role that tourism and wine play in providing much-needed employment in the province. “#487Jobs” refers to the fact that Spier alone employs almost 500 people who, in turn, support many more people’s livelihoods.
“Spier is committed to the livelihoods of all our employees. With the support of our surrounding communities we’ll be able to continue to invest in their wellbeing and livelihoods,” says Spier CEO Andrew Milne.
