INTRODUCING OUR NEW CAP CLASSIQUE BRUT ROSÉ
Made with 100% Pinot Noir grapes hand-picked from a single vineyard block in the Elgin valley, this elegant salmon-pink Cap Classique Brut Rosé is a must for sophisticated celebrations. Vibrant strawberry and apple notes, crisp minerality and an intense finish make this rosé the perfect way to begin your special occasion in style. It’s equally sublime with light seafood dishes too.
Just like the golden-hued Spier Cap Classique Brut you know and love, our new Cap Classique Brut Rosé has been crafted the traditional French way, fermented in the bottle and is richly expressive of varietal, vintage, and terroir.
So what makes this rosy-hued stunner — and the vines it came from — so special? Winemaker Heidi Dietstein explains: “Because the Elgin Valley is roughly 300m above sea level and just 10km from the icy Atlantic Ocean, it’s the coolest wine region in South Africa. The valley is similar in many ways to Champagne in France and therefore naturally ideal for making a bubbly of this kind and quality.”
She adds: “A cooler climate means the berries are able to ripen for longer on the vines prior to harvest. Using only one varietal — Pinot Noir — from a single, small vineyard block in the valley gives this Cap Classique a set of very unique characteristics that are specific to its terroir. The soil, the water and the climate have all influenced the delicate and deliciously complex taste and aromas that you will soon enjoy! I kept this wine in the bottle for 14 months, a little longer than normal, because it responded so well to time spent on the lees. We’re really proud of the result and can’t wait for you to try it!”
