Four Delicious Reasons To Visit Our Cellar Door
Stock up on these exceptional wines, each of them exclusive to our wine shop adjoining the tasting venue.
1. FRANS K. SMIT (Cape Winemakers Guild edition)
Complex and nuanced, this limited edition wine is the product of a collaboration between the Spier farm and our accomplished cellar master. The wine that bears Frans K. Smit’s name is a tribute to this man’s great love of wine, his winemaking skill and his dedication to the process. The blend contains primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz.
2. SECRET SPARKLING
Popping for the first time in 2015, Secret Sparkling was created by Jacques Erasmus, Spier’s senior white wine winemaker, and winner of the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year Award 2014. This delicately salmon-toned sparkling rosé blend has a berry basket of varietals and flavours – including Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
3. IDEOLOGY WINES
Marrying “ideas” with “oenology”…because winemakers have their best ideas when they are making wine. Ideology allows the Spier winemakers to use a diversity of varietals and blends to create wines with distinctive character, merging winemaking skill and experience with creative exploration, yielding wines that challenge convention. Each year, the Ideology range brings new tastes to the table. Only small quantities are produced, enabling experimentation. Only available from Spier

4. DANCING IN OTHER WORDS NOBLE LATE HARVEST 2012
Only 500 bottles of this limited series were released, in commemoration of the dancing in other words Spier Poetry Festival, the biannual international poetry festival curated by Breyten Breytenbach as a joint project between Spier and the Pirogue Collective. With aromas of sundried apricots and honey, this Noble Late Harvest has an abundance of apricot, pineapple and sweet orange marmalade flavour, balanced with an agreeable acidity and hints of oak spice. Crafted from Chenin Blanc grapes, handpicked at optimal ripeness from 40-year-old vines, it matured for 36 months in French oak barrels. A wine to relish now, or to lay down and enjoy uncorking in years to come.
