What do you love most about your job?
I love meeting new people and training the staff, helping to develop them.
What’s the best thing about Spier?
The values of Spier are actually implemented – and are not just for show. Spier genuinely cares about its staff. We’re more committed than a lot of other companies to taking care of the environment (such as planting trees) and giving back to our communities.
What is your greatest strength?
I’m a very approachable person so it’s easy for people to come and get advice. They know that I’ll tell the truth – that I’m honest.
How do you make a positive difference to the environment?
As part of our journey towards zero waste to landfill, I’m part of a team that is committed to recycling as much as possible.
How do you make a positive difference to your community?
I’m very open, so often my colleagues come to me for advice. Also, when I see that someone has potential, I provide them with support and encouragement to help them reach this.
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received?
My previous manager Dagmar told me to trust and believe more in myself.
Who inspires you?
My mom. She’s a very strong person who’s been through a lot. She’s been so supportive. She did about three jobs to be able to provide us with food and clothing.
What do you get up to when you’re not at work?
My four-year-old keeps me very busy. Sometimes we’ll go out; but mostly I’m at home. On Sundays we go to church.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would that be?
I wish I could encourage people to change their minds, from negativity to positivity – to embrace the opportunities that are out there.
Where is your favourite part of the farm, and why is it your favourite?
The food garden on the Werf. I’m not into veggies, but the way it looks is beautiful. I also love the roses. It’s something different.
What’s your favourite season?
Spring – you can wear light things. It’s not too hot, and not too cold.
What’s the key to being happy in life?
Do the something that make you happy each and every day. If smiling makes you happy, then smile more.
What are you proudest of having achieved?
I’ve achieved a lot since I started at Spier as a waitress – not knowing even how to hold a tray. But I’m proudest of my current position. Someone believed in me, and gave me a chance to grow.
