Spier 21 Gables Ranked Among South Africa’s Top 10 Sauvignon Blancs – Again!
At a ceremony at Val de Vie estate in Paarl on Friday, it was revealed that the Spier 21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2015 has been featured in the 2015 FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10.
This is the second time the Spier 21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc has been recognised with this accolade: last year it was the turn of the 2013 vintage to be included.
The multiple award-winning 21 Gables range (which includes a Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and a Cabernet Sauvignon) is Spier’s flagship range of single varietal wines, honouring a pioneering heritage of winemaking that stretches back to the early 1700s.
“This vintage has given us, for the first time, some ripe, tropical adventure,” says Jacques Erasmus, Spier’s senior white wine winemaker and the winner of last year’s Diners Club Winemaker of the Year. “While being creamier and more concentrated, with superb body, the classic elements of a Sauvignon Blanc are present.”
Made with grapes handpicked from the Tygerberg Hills, this crisply elegant wine has fresh grassiness on the nose. Bell pepper, grass, jalapeno, green fig leaves and gooseberry flavours are followed by longer riper, tropical accents on the palate. Pair with grilled salmon with roasted beets and fennel, or poached shrimp and a creamy Dijon sauce.
The Spier 21 Gables Sauvignon blanc 2015 is available from Spier’s online store – store.spierwines.co.za – for R129 per bottle.
