Spier End’s 2021 On A High Note With Five 5-Star Platter Awards
As a record-breaking awards season comes to a close for Spier, we are delighted to share one final set of showstopping results. The 2022 Platter's by Diners Club South African Wine Guide has awarded Spier wines with five 5-star, eight 4.5 star and nine 4-star ratings. A 5-Star rating went to the following selection of wines:

Frans K. Smit White 2019 (96 points)
21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2020 (96 points)
Cap Classique R.D Brut 2013 (95 points)
This diverse range of styles, from Cap Classique and a single variety Chenin to three high-end blends, is a testament to Cellar Master Johan Jordaan and the Spier winemaking team’s remarkable skill in both the vineyard and cellar. In addition, the following eight wines received an impressive 4.5 rating:
21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (94 points)
21 Gables Pinotage 2018 (93 points)
21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2021 (94 points)
Creative Block 5 2018 (94 points)
Creative Block 3 2018 (93 points)
First Stone Organic Red Blend 2018 (93 points)
Farm House Organic Chenin Blanc 2019 (93 points)
Creative Block 2 2021 (90 points)
Nine of the Spier wines received a 4-star rating, which is no small feat! Most notably, both the Signature Sauvignon Blanc 2021 and Signature Series Merlot 2019 were recognised. As everyday wines, this set of results once again confirms the high level of quality inherent across all Spier ranges.
This outstanding set of results certainly wraps up the year on a high note for Spier:
“2021 is one for our winemaking books! Having recently taken the reins from now MD Frans Smit, there’s no doubt in my mind that winemaking is an inherited legacy of good choices and future thinking. I believe these Platter’s results are proof that the Spier team is headed towards an even brighter future,” shares Cellar Master Johan Jordaan.
