Spier Scores Top Marks In The Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report
The Spier Woolworths Private Collection 2013 scored 94 points in the recently released 2016 Prescient Cabernet Sauvignon Report. This made it the highest ranking wine in the report (in conjunction with the Delaire Graff Reserve 2013).
“The Spier Woolworths Private Collection 2013 is made with grapes from Darling – a region which consistently offers extraordinary terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. It is wonderful to see our focus on this varietal bearing fruit,” Frans Smit, Spier's cellar master says.
The judges praised the wine's 'succulent fruit, fresh acidity and powdery tannins', describing it has having 'lovely purity and poise'. The panel tasted all the wines submitted blind, rewarding those which showed purity of fruit, freshness and structure. The judging panel was chaired by Christian Eedes, Roland Peens and James Pietersen, both of Wine Cellar in Cape Town.
The Spier Woolworths Private Collection 2013 has also won gold at the 2015 Veritas Awards and was included in the 2016 Top 100 SA Wines.
