Spier Supports Earth Hour 2014
The Spier Hotel restaurant is committed to reducing its energy consumption throughout the year, and will be commemorating Earth Hour on Saturday 29th March from 8.30pm – 9.30pm.
What is Earth Hour?
For seven years running, on the last Saturday of March, millions of people around the world have switched off their lights for Earth Hour as a symbolic gesture to show their commitment to taking positive actions for our planet.
Organised by the WWF, Earth Hour is a global, grassroots movement that encourages people to save energy and protect the planet against manmade climate change and other environmental challenges.
This year, WWF's Earth Hour campaign will be calling on you to make your individual promise to the planet by asking the question, “How do you Honour the Earth?”

How did it begin?
Earth Hour first began as an hour-long “lights off” event in Sydney, Australia, in March 2007. WWF Australia inspired Sydney residents to show their support for action against manmade climate change. More than two million individuals and 2000 businesses turned their lights off for one hour.
The event has experienced phenomenal growth since then – today Earth Hour events occur in more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide.
When will it be happening this year?
All over the world, it will be happening on Saturday 29th March from 8.30pm – 9.30pm local time.
What does Earth Hour aim to achieve?
Earth Hour aims to foster a global community of people committed to reducing their environmental impact and working towards a sustainable future for our planet. The event also aims to show that environmental problems are not insurmountable – and that by making small changes, we can make a big difference.
