Spier Supports Infecting The City
From 9 till 14 March, Cape Town’s city centre becomes alive with free performances, music and dance as Infecting The City, an annual public arts festival sponsored by Spier, transforms the city centre into an outdoor venue, where art is free and accessible to everyone.
Over many years and through a diverse series of projects such as festivals, performances, residencies, grants and more, Spier has played a key role in South Africa’s creative ecology. It strives to find ways to support and stimulate the arts community in South Africa, supporting projects – such as Infecting the City – that acknowledge our African arts heritage, protect its legacy and contributes to its future.
Infecting the City’s programme has five routes of scheduled performances happening in venues through the central city during both the daytime and evening. Viewers are encouraged to walk from performance to performance over the course of several hours. There are also various hubs of activity – central spaces that are activated for the whole day with various installations, participatory artworks and performances.
At the end of the festival’s evening routes, Spier has arranged a bunch of food stalls and a wine bar where festivalgoers can tuck into delicious street food and Spier Signature wine. This will be at the Cape Town Castle on Monday and Tuesday evening, and in the Company’s Gardens on Thursday and Friday evening.
