Spier’s 21 Gables & Yellowwood Organic Brings Home 3 Grand Golds From 29Th Concours Mondial De Bruxelles Awards
Stellenbosch producer Spier won three of the 5 Grand Gold medals awarded to South African wines from the internationally acclaimed Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
A true champion on the awards circuit, the 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2020 continues building on a great awards lineage. It is complemented by the 21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 which highlights the exceptional terroir of Stellenbosch. A wildcard winner that has received its inaugural recognition is The Yellowwood Organic White 2021. This organic wine is a blend of 56% Chenin blanc and 44% Viognier and is named after the indigenous yellowwood tree standing tall in the heart of Spier’s Werf (farmyard). Organically farmed, crafted and officially certified, it is a true standout wine.
“Each year, the awards season provides the Spier winemaking team with a new set of thrills. We are absolutely delighted to be recognized for our consistency within the 21 Gables range. It is also exciting to see a newcomer like The Yellowwood Organic take a prime position on the podium - a sign of the times and testament to the value of crafting wines in collaboration with nature,” shares Johan Jordaan, Cellar Master at Spier.
The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles is an international competition that took place in Cosenza, Italy. This year, over 7375 wines were entered to be tasted and evaluated by a panel of international judges.
