Tyson Meyi joined Spier 13 years as a general assistant with no knowledge of wine at all. Today he’s a senior wine educator passionate about sharing his knowledge of wine with visitors to Spier’s Tasting Room.

Nursery Supervisor Samuel Moloi has been working in Spier’s nursery for the last 10 years. Passionate about sharing his knowledge with his team members, he’s helping to restore the farm’s ecosystem to good health, through the growing and planting of millions of indigenous plants.

MARTS 23, 2017 | In 2007, Spier installed a pioneering centralised wastewater treatment plant, which is the embodiment of our approach to waste management. It recycles 100% of Spier’s wastewater, treating it with only environmentally friendly methodology. The clean water is then used for irrigation in the North Bank (hospitality operation) gardens as well in our Wine Tasting ablution facilities.

MARTS 16, 2017 | Spier is home to a diverse bunch of passionate people, doing what they love, and committed to making a difference every day. Marelise Hector is a farm supervisor at Spier’s Nooitgedacht farm near Paarl and has worked there for the last nine years. “Basically, we’re putting back into nature what nature is giving to us,” says Marelise. “I had never farmed organically till now. It’s a big responsibility: we don’t spray pesticide anymore to kill bugs.”
