Woordfees At Spier
The Toyota SU Woordfees is a unique collaboration that brings together a town, a university, artists, audiences and communities from across our country and many parts of the world to tell the stories of our borders, our differences, our similarities, our fears, our joys, our refuges, our triumphs and our strengths.

André Schwartz: Die pad
Date: 6 March

Die pad is a glimpse into the life of André Schwartz, up close and personal. He tells the story of his life – from boyhood to now. André shares the hurt, the difficulty, the curve-balls and the many times he fell, but more importantly, the many times he got up. This performance is intimate and personal and includes hits, songs from musicals, classical music and pure cabaret.

Simfonie van gebede – AGL Opera

AGL Opera presents Symphony of Prayers which draws together classical musicians from all over Cape Town in a presentation of famous sacred arias and hymns. Artists include Shirley Sutherland, Jacobi Benkenstein, Johannes van Staden-Slabbert, and Raimondo van Staden-Slabbert, accompanied by a 5-piece orchestra including, Vanessa Phillips (Piano), Schalk Wasserman (Timpani and Percussion) and Natalie Lawrenson (French Horn). The proceeds raised from “Symphony” performances will go toward funding community development projects.

Refentse

Refentse was discovered at the age of sixteen playing music in the streets of Vereeninging. The past five years have seen his meteoric rise in the music industry. Hits such as “REisiger”, “Oom Faan se plaas” and “Vuil Vanderbijl” all received more than one million views on YouTube. You don’t want to miss him singing his version of “Sonvanger” under the stars.

Amanda Strydom: Stadig oor die klippers

Amanda Strydom’s cabaret Stadig oor die klippers won the 2019 Fiësta Award for Best musically-driven production (Podium). Strydom talks and sings about love, life, the human condition, death, the blue planet, people in need and the “freaks”. She covers a wide spectrum of emotions, from the hilarious to the tragic. In addition to her own songs, she sings the works of, amongst others, Kerkorrel, Sting, Piaf and Dietrich. Coenraad Rall accompanies her on piano.

Su Jazz Band celebrates women in Jazz

The SU Jazz Band is grooving under the stars in their own unique, energetic style with three popular, award-winning singers. He was an award-winning blue-collar troubadour. His exposure to the Baptist faith and the hell-fire and brimstone in gospel music, had a huge influence on his lyrics and music. He is an American paradox: A Republican with a big heart for the Other.

Eet kreef! celebrates Johannes Kerorrel and the Gereformeerde Blues Band’s iconic album, 30 years after it was originally released. With the voice of Laudo Liebenberg (aKING) and a smoking hot band, this production is more than a tribute - it is a brand new rock “n” roll experience. There are new arrangements and “Energy”, but none of the elements that made the original album such a massive cultural hit have been lost. Laudo Liebenberg and the group’s spine-tingling rendition of “Hillbrow” can be seen on YouTube.
