A Summer Night’s Dream
Have you ever wondered what happens in the twilight hours on a mid-summer evening at a Stellenbosch wine farm? Quite simply, it’s a magical celebration of nature and the imagination.
A Summer Night’s Dream is an enchanting family-friendly show, staged outdoors in a magnificent natural amphitheatre on the farm. As night falls, a troupe of weird and wonderful characters gathers to create a world of fantasy, bringing the landscape alive with colour and sound. The hour-long performance features 25 dancers, musicians, singers, and actors.
The event starts on the Werf with a feast. Ticket options include Spier’s delicious food options, from a braaied burger to a picnic spread. As the light of the day moves slowly into darkness, join the procession and make your way to the arena and settle down on the lush green lawn. Celebrate the festive season this year by doing something different with your whole family.
Art, like food and wine, is best shared, which is why Spier is such an enthusiastic supporter of African artists and their creations. Housing one of the largest contemporary collections in the country, we believe art has the power to teach and inspire, encouraging us all to engage openly with our world and each other. With such a thriving local artistic community and rich cultural heritage, we’re excited about the future of South African art.

FAQ'S
Do you cater for dietary restrictions?
Both vegetarians and vegans are catered for with special picnic options. Please
What happens if it rains?
As much as we’d like to say, ‘the show must go on’, we will need to cancel the event if it rains. We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and let you know by 12:00 (at the latest) on the day of the performance. You will have the option to move your booking to another available date or be refunded.
Is the event kids-friendly?
Absolutely! The performance will light up kids’ imaginations but provide enough substance for the whole family.
Kids' meals are not included, what’s on offer for them?
We get it, kids are picky! Grab a healthy snack at the Farm Café or choose a kiddies burger or hot dog at the Bubbles & Braai bar. Consider arriving earlier to make provision for kiddies food orders.
How far will I need to walk?
Part of the magic of the event is exploring the farm. The event takes place in a beautiful location next to the river where the lawns create a natural amphitheatre. It’s about a 5-minute stroll on fairly flat terrain.
Do I need to wear walking shoes and is it pram friendly?
Yes, we recommend wearing flat, comfortable shoes. There is a paved walkway suitable for prams but due to the sloped lawn, our tiniest guests and their parents might need to be seated towards the back and/or sides of the audience area.
Who is performing?
There will be 30 performers on each night, including actors Gaëtan Schmid and Rehane Adams, composer and musician Nkosenathi Koela, acrobats from Zip Zap, dancers from SboNdaba Dance Company, as well as stilt walkers, singers, fire dancers and clowns.
Can I purchase a ticket on the day?
Tickets can only be purchased through Webtickets. Online sales will close at 12:00 on the day. We recommended booking in advance to secure your spot.
Can I bring my own food and wine?
You cannot. But don’t worry, all adult tickets include food options and there will be food for the kids too. You can also purchase our award-winning wines.
What's included in my picnic ticket?
There are two types of picnic tickets. The sunset picnic ticket includes our generously sized picnic – view the menu here. For those who just want a smaller nibble, the mini-picnic includes a Vadas baguette, hummus, charcuterie and cheeses with lavash crackers.
Where do I go on the day, and where do I collect my food?
On arrival, you will be directed to an easy-to-find ticketing station. Once your ticket has been scanned, you will receive a token for the meal selected, which can then be collected from the relevant outlet. Wine will be available from the Farm Café and a dedicated wine and beverage station on the Werf. Find a spot on the lawn to enjoy a meal together before the show starts.
Should I bring anything?
Depending on what time you arrive you might like sunscreen and a hat. We also recommend clothing to keep warm in the evening.
