Abina: A Theatre Production For Kids
Interactive children’s theatre bursts to life on the Werf.
This eclectic production of song, poetry, performance and puppetry teaches children how to confront their bullies. The story follows five-year-old Abina, a gentle soul being bullied by her cousins. With the help of animal dream guides and a magical tree, Abina learns how to stand up for herself and discovers a world where love and friendship conquers all.
Art, like food and wine, is best shared, which is why we are such an enthusiastic supporter of African artists and their creations. Housing one of the largest contemporary collections in the country, we believe art has the power to teach and inspire, encouraging us all to engage openly with our world and each other. With such a thriving local artistic community and rich cultural heritage, we’re excited about the future of South African art.

FAQ'S
What ages are most suitable?
The show is designed for children aged 3-14 but can be enjoyed by the whole family.
What format does the event take?
The show is interactive. Children will be invited to follow performers around the werf. Families are encouraged to find a seat on the Werf and enjoy a meal while the children are participating in the theatre. The boulders and ancient oaks set the stage so you get to sit back and relax while keeping an eye on the little ones.
What happens if it rains?
As much as we’d like to say, ‘the show must go on’, we will need to cancel the event if it rains. We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and let you know by 12:00 (at the latest) on the day of the performance. You will have the option to move your booking to another available date or be refunded.
What’s on the menu?
We have options!
Pre-book our sunset picnic – view the menu here.
Visit Bubbles & Braai for a Farmer Angus burger straight off the fire.
Book a table at Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery or order a takeaway pizza to enjoy on the lawn.
What's included in my picnic ticket?
There are two types of picnic tickets.
Can I purchase a ticket on the day?
Yes, as long as there are tickets available you can book. We recommended booking in advance to secure your spot.
Can I bring my own food and wine?
You cannot. Our chefs will prepare delicious food options and there will be food for the kids too. You can also purchase our award-winning wines.
Should I bring anything?
We recommend a blanket and clothing to keep warm in the evening. And good vibes.
