Teaching the value of waste

It's sorted

100% of our organic waste is transformed into organic, nutrient-rich fertiliser and more than 97% of our solid waste is recycled. In our goal to push this to 100%, our It’s Sorted training programme teaches our staff on an ongoing basis about the value of recycling and how to reduce waste to landfill.

A few key facts

Organic waste recycled

Garden prunings and cut-out alien vegetation gets chipped and combined with pomace from our winery to form a nutrient-rich compost. This is used for mulching in our vineyards, gardens and nursery. Our use of organic waste to form compost results not just in less waste-to-landfill, but ensures the natural boosting of soil fertility.

Solid waste recycled

Each department sorts its waste into different categories before it's sorterd a second time at our sorting facility to make absolutely sure the waste can’t be recycled, and to help us identify any new non-recyclable items in the waste stream.

Our big hairy audacious goal for 2023

78 tons

We closely work with suppliers and staff, and carefully consider everything that comes onto the farm and give careful consideration to whatever leaves it. We’re aiming to send zero waste to landfill by 2023.

Our product development team constantly looks at innovations around more sustainable and environmentally-friendly packaging.
