Spier Vintage Selection Bordeaux Blend

30% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot

WINEMAKER:
Johan Jordaan

ORIGIN:
Coastal

TERROIR / SOIL:
Decomposed granite with clay subsoil

VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS:
13 – 18-year-old vines planted on cooler south-eastern slopes of Darling, Paarl and Stellenbosch regions. Deep decomposed granite soils with good water retention and medium fertility leads to low concentrated yields, adding to wine complexity. Temperature: Winter 8-19°C; Summer 13-29°C
Annual Rainfall: average of 450 mm
Proximity to Ocean: 15 – 55 km

WINEMAKING:
The grapes fermented individually and wines aged for 8 months in 1st, 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels. The wines were tasted and then blended into the barrel for a further 4 months of ageing.

APPEARANCE:
Dark intense red

TASTING NOTE:
Layers of blackcurrant, plums and oak spice. Ripe red and blackberry fruit with juicy plum notes and integrated spicy notes of pepper and oak.

SERVE WITH:
Enjoy now or within 7 to 12 years of harvest. Serve with braised lamb shanks in roasted plum sauce on baked butternut mash.
