Western Cape, South Africa
These grapes are grown in the more arid regions of the South African wine country, namely the Little Karoo. Here the summers are long and dry with great cold units in the winter and average to low rainfall. Perfect for low yielding Cape fortified wines. The soils are predominantly weathered shale and has a very high water-holding capacity. The vines vary in age from but in general older than 20 years. The hot, dry conditions is conducive to low disease pressure, resulting in quite a minimal influence on the growing cycle of the vines.
