Chenin Blanc / Grenache Blanc
WINEMAKER: Jacques Erasmus
TERROIR / SOIL:
The Grenache vines are planted along the lower contours of Kasteelberg mountain and the Chenin Blanc is planted at Rooidraai, just outside the town of Malmesbury. The soils are mainly Malmesbury shale interspersed with rich Hutton soils.
VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS:
Trellised and bush vines with an average age of 14 years. The yield is low, and the berries are concentrated. The area has a low annual rainfall with cold winters. Warm summer months are tempered by cool afternoon breezes.
Only the best bunches were hand-harvested early in the morning. At the cellar the grapes were carefully destemmed and gently crushed. Skin contact was limited to ensure that the juice was clean and bright. Only the free-run juice drained off to settle overnight before inoculation with a selected yeast strain. 90% of the wine fermented in stainless steel tanks and the rest in 400L French oak barrels.
Alc: 13.91 %/vol
TA: 6.2 g/L
RS: 1.9 g/L
APPEARANCE: Straw-yellow with a green tint
This medium-bodied wine has aromas of white peach, citrus, quince and honey blossom along with a subtle minerality. The palate offers generous fresh fruit and a lively acidity on the finish.
Serve with Thai green cauliflower curry, grilled fish or a roasted chicken.
