TASTING NOTE:
Notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, juicy plums and cherries with subtle oak spice. The complex palate has intense fruit, a rich mid-palate, smooth tannins and a long, balanced finish.
APPEARANCE: Deep ruby red
WINEMAKER: Johan Jordaan
ORIGIN: Coastal Region
TERROIR / SOIL:
The terroir ranges from deep decomposed granite soils with clay subsoil to weathered shale. The medium soil fertility leads to medium growth and medium-to-low yields, resulting in balanced and pure wines.
VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS:
The growing conditions for the 2019 harvest were relatively normal with good rainfall and low disease pressure. These vines are 12 – 20 years old and supplementary drip irrigation is used in extreme drought conditions. The aftermath of the drought did present us with low and concentrated yields with medium-to-full-bodied wines with balanced fruit aromas.
WINEMAKING:
Handpicked grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented. All the varieties were fermented individually and matured in French oak barrels: 20% new, 50% second fill and 30% third fill. The wine matured for 16 months in oak before tasting and blending.
