ORIGIN: Coastal Region
VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS:
The terroir ranges from deep decomposed granite soils with clay subsoil to weathered shale. The medium soil fertility leads to medium growth and medium-to-low yields, resulting in balanced and pure wines. The vineyards are planted on a range of aspects, from flat to north-eastern facing slopes that moderate phenolic development and enhance fruit preservation. Canopy management protected the fruit from overexposure to the sun; this resulted in slower ripening and balanced wines with good, clean fruit characters and firm structure. The vines are 13 - 20 years old and planted on Vertical Shoot Positioning systems with some supplementary drip irrigation.
WINEMAKING:
Hand-picked grapes were crushed and fermented. All the varieties were fermented individually and matured in French oak barrels (20% first fill, 50% second fill and 30% third fill). The wine matured in oak for 16 months before tasting and blending.
