Spier Wine Farm’s ‘A Summer Dream’ returns this December to enchant audiences of all ages. Under an open sky, this surreal and magical spectacle weaves a fantastical tale of light and hope, brought to life by a weird and wonderful ensemble of dancers, clowns, actors and musicians.
Produced by Third World Bunfight, and underscored by the haunting songs of Capetonian Jak Tomas, ‘A Summer Dream’ unfolds within a dramatic natural landscape as night falls. This annual festive event begins with a feast on the Werf. Ticket options include a variety of food choices from the Picnickery.
Art, like food and wine, is best shared, which is why Spier is such an enthusiastic supporter of African artists and their creations. Housing one of the largest contemporary collections in the country, we believe art has the power to teach and inspire, encouraging us all to engage openly with our world and each other. With such a thriving local artistic community and rich cultural heritage, we’re excited about the future of South African art.

FAQ'S
What happens if it rains?
As much as we’d like to say, ‘the show must go on’, we will need to cancel the event if it rains. We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and let you know by 12:00 (at the latest) on the day of the performance. You will have the option to move your booking to another available date or be refunded.
Is the event kids-friendly?
Absolutely! The performance will light up kids’ imaginations but provide enough substance for the whole family.
Kids' meals are not included in ticket options, what’s on offer for them?
We get it, kids are picky! Grab a healthy snack at the Picnickery or choose a kiddies burger or hot dog at the Bubbles & Braai bar. Consider arriving earlier to make provision for kiddies food orders.
How far will I need to walk?
Part of the magic of the event is exploring the farm. The event takes place in a beautiful location next to the river where the lawns create a natural amphitheatre. It’s about a 5-minute stroll on fairly flat terrain.
Do I need to wear walking shoes and is it pram friendly?
Yes, we recommend wearing flat, comfortable shoes. There is a paved walkway suitable for prams but due to the sloped lawn, our tiniest guests and their parents might need to be seated towards the back and/or sides of the audience area.
Can I purchase a ticket on the day?
Tickets can only be purchased through Webtickets. Online sales will close at 12:00 on the day. We recommended booking in advance to secure your spot.
Can I bring my own food and wine?
You cannot. But don’t worry, we have great food options on the farm. You can also purchase our award-winning wines.
What's included in my picnic ticket?
The sunset picnic ticket includes our generously sized picnic – view the menu here.
Where do I go on the day, and where do I collect my food?
On arrival, you will be directed to an easy-to-find ticketing station. Once your ticket has been scanned, you will receive a token for the meal selected, which can then be collected from the relevant outlet. Wine will be available from the Picnickery. Find a spot on the lawn to enjoy a meal together before the show starts.
Should I bring anything?
Depending on what time you arrive you might like sunscreen and a hat. We also recommend clothing to keep warm in the evening. The location is on a sloped lawn not suited to chairs, a picnic blanket is recommended.
