Meet The Tree-Preneurs
Visitors get the opportunity to see the exciting work we’re doing in our onsite greening project known as Tree-preneurs, not normally open to the public.
Our project manager Lesley will walk you through the nursery and share inspiring stories about the project and its people.
Spier provides land, facilities and a manager to drive Tree-preneurs in the Cape. This project teaches members of impoverished communities how to care for indigenous plants. Once the seedlings they’ve been given to nurture are big enough, these are exchanged for food vouchers, clothing, bicycles, educational support and other essentials.
Tree-preneurs empowers over 89 people from some of the Cape’s poorest communities with the opportunity to change their lives. Ranging in age from 5 to 93, Tree-preneurs are taught how to care for indigenous trees and plants. They are given seedlings to nurture; once these have reached 60cm, they can be exchanged for vouchers for food, clothing, agricultural goods, tools, bicycles and educational support.
