Spier Celebrated Garden Town
Spring is here, time to pack away those winter coats.
Taking inspiration from the famous flower festival of Girona in Spain, Garden Week will showcase all of Stellenbosch’s natural splendour from 30 September to 10 October, offering garden tours, guided walks, art exhibitions, and plenty of wining and dining.
Here’s what is on offer at Spier:
Spier Food Garden Tour
The Spier Food Garden is an unmissable stop along the Garden Week path. Visitors to the garden will meet Megan McCarthy, our expert food grower, and her green-thumbed team to learn about the diverse variety of our organically grown crops and our new orchard. Megan is always eager to share her team’s environmentally friendly techniques, such as soil-building and natural pest control to produce Spier’s nutritious food. You can even fill your basket with fresh, self-harvested veggies to take home.
6 & 9 October, 9:00, R175 pp. Find out more and book.
Meet the Tree-preneurs
Visitors get the opportunity to see the exciting work we’re doing in our onsite greening project known as Tree-preneurs, not normally open to the public. Our project manager Lesley will walk you through the nursery and share inspiring stories about the project and its people.
5 & 7 October, 10:00, 12:00 & 14:00, R100pp. Find out more and book.
Spier River Walk
Lovers of proteas and other wildflowers should put this on top of their list. Meet Spier’s Nursery Manager Wilton Sikhosana who will guide you on the River Walk, starting at the Spier Manor House and following a circular path exploring the diverse flora and interesting species that form part of Spier’s comprehensive rehabilitation project.
1 & 7 October, 12:00, R100pp. Find out more and book.
Garden Workshop: Your Own Home Nursery

This enables a deeper level of engagement and enjoyment in your food garden. Understand plant propagation 101, collecting plant materials and timings. Get hands-on experience in making and maintaining plant cuttings and an introduction to grafting.

Kids Workshop: Learn to Grow
The little ones can participate in a Learn to Grow workshop – either to make a self-watering seed-starter pot or a nature crown. In keeping with Spier’s commitment to a greener future, only recyclable and sustainable materials will be used.
