Vadas Earth To Eat Dinner: The Spier Food Garden
The ‘Earth to Eat’ Winter Dinner Series at Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery on Spier Wine Farm is a chance to learn about how Vadas’ supply partners passionately support the environment and local communities.
At the fourth event of the dinner series, Megan McCarthy of Spier Food Garden will share how the hectare of land is used to grow farm-fresh veggies, salad greens and herbs. Instead of inorganic pesticides or artificial fertilisers, Spier Food Garden uses worm compost and foliar sprays (a natural form of fertiliser) to keep the produce healthy. Alien vegetation is removed and converted to compost to promote soil health. McCarthy says: “Regenerative farming goes beyond sustainability. It means leaving the space in a better state than how you found it, as opposed to simply maintaining the status quo.” Enjoy a five-course dinner and a selection of Spier wines.
