FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE

HARNESSING THE POWER OF THE SUN

We have implemented an environmental management system for our cellar operations, closely monitoring water usage, waste generated, electricity consumed and chemicals used. A mixture of behavioural policies and engineering solutions (water and energy-saving devices) has helped us to meet our usage goals.

Spier is currently home to nine solar installations. From 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020, these generated 281 007,20 kWh, resulting in 278.197 tonnes of carbon savings. Energy from the sun is converted via two inverters which turn the DC (direct current) power into AC (alternating current) which can be used by appliances.

A master energy plan has been developed that incorporates the transition to renewable energy supply by 2025.
