Download Spier’s Celebration Of Summer Playlists
The sounds of our farm are already captivating: birds singing, chickens clucking, goggas crawling, people laughing, wine corks popping. To add a new dimension though, Spier has invited seven local musicians to create their own playlist to be enjoyed at venues around the farm.
In partnership with performance company Third World Bunfight, Spier is celebrating the music of South Africa and beyond. We like to think of it as our summer of sound!
Each of the seven Spotify playlists has been curated by well-known local recording artists and made to match moments in the day. Pop on your headphones to listen to Mellow Breakfast or Morning Vibes. Sit in the sunshine with the Midday Smell of Summer or Chilled Summer Afternoon. Get your feet moving to The Sun Dances in the Afternoon. Keep your toes tapping through the twilight hours of dusk with Sunset Over the Vineyards. Then find your happy place with Cosy Evening.
The musicians behind each playlist want to broaden listeners’ musical horizons. Your ears will love you for it.
Open up your Spotify account and search for Spier’s 7 Spotify playlists. Save the playlists to your library – each is around three hours long.

The SAMA-nominated musician and award-winning documentary filmmaker draws on her multiple ancestries – Irish, Zulu, Khoi and San indigenous – to create song and ceremony.
MIKHAELA FAYE: MORNING VIBES
The singer, songwriter and producer defies genres as she merges a degree in jazz with the punk, rock and hip hop of her teens. The results include electronica-fueled dream pop, sensual, R&B-styled vocals, and homegrown hip hop.

The saxophonist, flautist, and composer is an internationally acclaimed South African jazz musician who just won a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s SAMAs.

In 2019 Muyeni won the Afropunk Battle Of The Bands. In 2020 he released his debut album. Blending a narrative of Tshivenda folktales with modern sounds, he shares his love for his Makhulu (Grandmother), community, language, and human vulnerability.
SHANE COOPER: THE SUN DANCES IN THE AFTERNOON
The award-winning bassist and composer hails from Gqeberha but currently works in Johannesburg on his Afro-groove project MABUTA, and film and theatre scoring. Cooper has toured extensively in Europe and Africa with various groups.

Based in Cape Town with plenty of European touring experience, Jangle’s Dark Folk and Gypsy-SKA underpins her experimental approach. Her first solo album, African Dream Parade, offers a dreamy mix of chant-like harmony, bass and percussion.
GUY BUTTERY: COSY EVENING
The multi-instrumentalist plays all over the world as an ambassador of South African music. His homegrown style earned him the Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 2018. He has worked with Dave Matthews, Vusi Mahlasela, Will Ackerman, Salif Keita, The Violent Femmes and countless others.
