Explore The Farm On A Qhubeka Bike
Discover the farm for free, using one of the Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycles located at the Spier Hotel entrance.
These are sturdy and strong machines, designed for rough African terrain (and prove more than a match for our farm roads!). Designed by the Chicago-based World Bicycle Relief and assembled in South Africa, these bikes were named by the BBC as one of the 10 most beautiful bikes in the world.
Moving forward
Qhubeka Buffalo Bicycles are distributed in South Africa by Qhubeka, an NGO that helps to move people forward by giving bicycles in return for work done to improve communities, the environment or academic results.
Having a bicycle changes lives by increasing the distance people can travel, what they can carry, where they can go and how fast they can get there. Because the bikes are so robust, they’re able to carry far heavier loads and last a lot longer than many other bikes.
Bicycles for Life
Tree-preneurs is a partnership with Wildlands based at Spier that gives people living in some of the Cape’s poorest areas the opportunity to change their lives. Tree-preneurs are taught how to care for indigenous trees and plants. They grow and nurture seedlings which they can exchange for vouchers for food, clothing, agricultural goods, tools, and educational support. Through the Bicycles for Life partnership, local growers are also now able to exchange trees in return for Quebeka bikes.
