Four Mouthwatering Ways To Celebrate The Festive Season
Whether it’s a picnic under the ancient oaks of Spier’s historic Werf or a lavish roast, there’s a host of delicious ways to celebrate the festive season at Spier Wine Farm with your family.
1. Tuck into a classic Christmas roast
Spoil your family with a delicious three-course lunch in Spier’s leaf-dappled courtyard on Christmas day. The main course features three different roasted meats, Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings; desserts are an assortment of festive favourites.
From 12:00 – 15:00. Lunch costs R695 per adult (includes food, selected Spier Signature wines) and R300 for kids 6 to 12; kids under 6 eat free.
2. Travel the world one bite at a time
While Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery might be famous for its slow-and-low roasted meats, it’s a potent all-rounder, as its mouth-watering Christmas lunch proves. The extensive set menu takes inspiration from a diverse array of cuisines from around the world. Starters include smoked gammon boerenkaas croquettes, trout ceviche and fresh-baked sourdough with pesto. Highlights from the mains are smoked baby chicken with spiced orange and honey sauce, baby back ribs and smoked lamb shoulder; veggies get star treatment in the red pepper panzanella salad with goat cheese and the grilled pumpkin salad amongst other dishes. The range of yummy desserts includes a pavlova with cream and berries, mince pies and, of course, Vadas’s famous pasteis de nata. A specially-adapted (and just as delicious!) vegetarian menu caters to diners who don’t eat meat.
Lunch costs R695 per person (for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus) and R250 per child between the ages of 5 and 12. Book via 021 809 1137 or info@vadas.co.za
3. Eat alfresco on dappled lawns
Spier’s special Christmas picnic basket is exclusively available on 24 and 25 December. It’s packed with a decadent assortment that includes maple and brandy glazed gammon, Farmer Angus roast beef, baked camembert and plenty more. Save room for the mince pies and decadent chocolate trifle!
Baskets are R495 per person (excludes wine); book on Dineplan.
4. Feast your way across a night market on New Year’s Eve
There’s no more delicious way to celebrate the start of 2021 with your loved ones. As the sun sets, tuck into tapas in Spier’s courtyard, and then explore a magical Night Market. Head to the fishmonger for freshly shucked oysters or pile your plate high with meat from the braai. Be sure to flag down the ice cream bicycle for a sweet summertime fix.
From 19:00 to 01:00. R995 per adult (includes food, selected Spier Signature wines) and R500 for kids 6 to 12; kids under 6 eat free.
