Meet The Team: Cuven Conradie
Spier is home to a diverse bunch of passionate people, doing what they love, and committed to making a difference every day. Cuven Conradie is a cellar assistant and assistant stock controller in Spier’s winery, where he’s worked for nearly three years. The cellar is his favourite part of the farm. “I feel at home here,” he says.
What do you love most about your job?
I love creating quality wine.
What’s the best thing about Spier?
It’s a family farm. Everyone knows everyone and we’re close. Spier gives back, to uplift the community. For example, the Tree-preneurs, planting trees in disadvantaged areas, and cleaning up the Eerste River.
What is your greatest strength?
Kindness.
How do you make a positive difference to the environment?
I don’t litter. I also always try to save water.
How do you make a positive difference to your community?
I’m always helpful – I help wherever I can. I’m always giving advice to younger people.
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received?
Always be humble. Be yourself. Respect others.
Who inspires you?
Nelson Mandela. He was humble. When he got money, he didn’t want it – he wanted everyone to be equal.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would that be?
Poverty.
Where is your favourite part of the farm, and why is it your favourite?
The cellar because I feel at home here.
Who or what makes you laugh?
The guys in the cellar. There’s a lot of joking and banter every day.
What’s your favourite season?
Winter. That time of the year, everyone is indoors, and we’re bonding like a family.
What’s the key to being happy in life?
Be yourself, be honest, and respectful.
What are you proudest of having achieved?
My 4-year-old boy.
