Meet The Team: Trust Zhou
Spier is home to a diverse bunch of passionate people, doing what they love, and committed to making a difference every day. Trust Zhou joined Spier ten years ago as a waiter in the Hotel Restaurant. After a stint as hotel floor manager, he joined the finance department in 2015 where he works as Cash Controller.
What do you love most about your job?
I love working flexibly and independently, being able to meet deadlines timeously. It’s really great to be guarding Spier’s income from all the Spier Leisure outlets.
What makes Spier different to other companies?
There are so many things that makes Spier different. It treats its staff well through things like the on-site clinic, clinic and staff transport. I love its emphasis on sustainability – which you see through the recycling of water and food waste and eco-friendly methods farming methods.
What is your greatest strength?
Taking initiative, identifying problem and provide solutions in my scope of work
What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received?
My mother is a huge inspiration to me. She told me once, “If you fail, keep on trying.”
What do you get up to when you’re not at work?
I love hiking in the mountains, as well as watching football and cricket.
Who or what makes you laugh?
My son, Anesu.
If you could change one thing in the world, what would that be?
Taking money out of this world.
Where is your favourite part of the farm?
I occasionally take a walk along the River Walk alongside the Eerste River during my lunchbreak or when thing get tough for me. It’s so tranquil – and every time I feel my mind gets refreshed there. The Walk is home to hundreds of indigenous plants our nursery team have propagated – including many beautiful examples of the protea, South Africa’s national flower.
What’s the key to being happy in life?
Happiness must come from within me – it doesn’t come from money, a relationship or your job. Only you can make yourself happy.
