Spier Architectural Arts At The 2013 Fnb Joburg Art Fair
Spier will be centre-stage at the 2013 FNB Joburg Art Fair. As one of South Africa’s most significant corporate collections, the Spier Art Collection can be defined by its direct impact on the contemporary arts industry.
With the clear objective of promoting the work of local artists, many of the works in the Collection are the result of a number of programmes supported by Spier to activate and develop the various levels of artistic talent in South Africa.
One such programme, Spier Architectural Arts will feature in the central atrium of this year’s art fair. Spier Architectural Arts facilitates the mediation between artists, designers and architects in the conceptualising, manufacturing and installation of large-scale artworks.
The exhibition ‘Sightlines’ will include Vertical Aerial, Johannesburg – a sculptural mosaic artwork by Gerhard Marx, Construction Workers – a handmade ceramic relief panel by Sam Nhlengethwa and Construct – a wearable art installation designed by the studio.
Spier’s winemakers will also present their proud history of winemaking dating back to 1692 with award winning wines from the Spier Bar. Included, amongst other ranges, will be Spier’s 21 Gables, Spier’s Creative Block and a limited edition wine from the collaborative series.
