Spier Is The Perfect Match At What Food, What Wine? Awards
Spier won four trophies in the South Africa’s inaugural What Food, What Wine? competition, which evaluated the suitability of wines paired to 12 of South Africa’s best-loved dishes.
The wines were blind tasted by a panel of top foodies that included chefs Rudi Liebenberg (the Mount Nelson) and Bertus Basson (Overture), as well as Michael Olivier, the food and wine fundi.
Over 136 wines were entered into the competition. There were two different categories for wines paired with each dish – everyday wines less than R100, and special occasion ones over R100.
Spier won the following trophies:
Elité Mature Cheddar (Over R100) – Spier Signature Methodé Cap Classique 2011
Hake and Chips (Under R100) – Spier Signature Sauvignon Blanc 2013
Hake and Chips (Over R100) – Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2012
Pap & Wors (Under R100) – Spier Signature Shiraz 2012
This was the first time the competition was held.
