Spier Scores Big At Sa Young Wine Show
At this year’s SA Young Wine Show, Spier was the best performing wine farm in Stellenbosch, one of the competition’s eight wine regions. In the regional competition, it hauled in an impressive 44 awards, including four Class Winners and two Golds, putting its tally at seven awards ahead of its nearest competitor in the neighbourhood.
Established in 1833, the prestigious SA Young Wine Show is the oldest wine competition in the country. It enables winemakers to flaunt their best wines from the current vintage – indeed, in many cases the wines are still some way off from being bottled and sold. By assessing wines that are still works in progress, the awards reward and celebrate the skill and talent involved in the wines’ production.
Spier’s winning streak continued in the SA Young Wine Show’s national arena, where its wooded Shiraz earned SA Champion status for the varietal. Nationally, its Class Winners were its Semillon and Shiraz (both wooded), while the farm also scooped up the following Gold awards
- Chardonnay (Wooded)
- Cabernet Sauvignon (Wooded)
