Step 1: Choose the Right Base
First things first, you need a steady and solid base to build your tower. A flat, sturdy table or a wide, level surface is key. Cover the surface with your favourite tablecloth or surface protector such as a tray or baking sheet to help catch any drips.
Step 2: Start with a Strong Foundation
Begin by placing a strong, wide base of coupe glasses on the table. Note that a tower will only work with coupe glasses, not flutes or standard wine glasses. A common approach is to start with a square of 4x4 glasses for a large tower or 3x3 for something smaller. Make sure each coupe glass is touching the others and align them as closely as possible.
Step 3: Layer It Up
Once your base layer is secure, start the next layer by placing glasses at the intersection points of the glasses below. Basically, each glass on the second level should sit on the meeting points of four glasses underneath. This is crucial for distributing the weight evenly and ensuring stability.
Step 4: Continue Building & Secure
Repeat the process, placing each new layer of glasses on the intersection points of the glasses directly below. With each level, your tower will naturally get smaller, leading to a beautiful pyramid shape. The number of layers will depend on how high you want your tower to go, but three to four layers are usually manageable and visually impressive. Take a moment to gently press down on each layer to ensure the glasses are stable. If any glass wobbles or seems insecure, adjust it slightly. This step is crucial for preventing mishaps once you start pouring.
Step 5: The Pour
Now for the grand finale - pouring the bubbles!
Start from the top of the tower, pouring the bubbly into the highest glass until it overflows and cascades down to fill the glasses below. Pour steadily and confidently to keep the flow smooth and to prevent splashing. Depending on the size of your tower, you may need to refill the top glass a few times to completely fill all glasses. Keep in mind, for a small tower, aim for at least two bottles of Cap Classique, while a full-blown tower may require up to six bottles. Pouring two bottles simultaneously can create a visually abundant flow.
*Top Tip: Practice before moving to the real bubbles!
Once complete, stand back and admire your handiwork! A Cap Classique tower is a show-stopping centerpiece, perfect for sharing life's celebratory moments. Snap a photo, tag us @spierwinefarm, and let's spread the joy! Now, grab a glass from the top to keep the structure stable, and let's toast to your success! Cheers from Spier!
