Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Spier’s winery has won multiple awards in recent years: In 2018, the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) declared it the South African Producer of the Year, and awarded it the Chenin Blanc Trophy (for the 21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2016) and the Sauvignon Blanc Trophy (for the 21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2017).
Spier farm is one of 38 WWF Conservation Champions and is organic- and WIETA-certified. The Spier winery is FSSC 22000, Fair Trade-, WIETA-, and organically-certified. Both the winery and the farm follow the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) criteria.
