Seaward Sauvignon Blanc

The wine has rich aromas of green figs, grass and ripe tropical fruit, following through to a lively palate of prominent fruit.

"A rare sighting from the very coastal Cape Town appellation, a fine cool spot for sauvignon blanc which dominates neighbouring Constantia. This has lifted aromas of lemongrass, yellow plum and gentle lees. It is very bright, slender, almost crisp, lively and well balanced with very good to excellent length. Slightly chalky mineral on the finish. The length is very good to excellent." Wine Align

TERROIR / SOIL:

The vines for the Seaward Sauvignon Blanc are grown along east-facing, deep Oakleaf and Clovelly soils on the Tygerberg Hills, just a stone’s throw from the coast. The result is a wine with a wonderful cleansing purity about it. The nose displays green figs, blackcurrant and ripe tropical fruit, whilst a sea-salt twist lingers on the lively finish.

VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS:

Dryland, trellised vines with an average age of 15 years yielded the grapes for this wine. Moderate summers with low night temperatures and cold winters create a perfect micro-climate for Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

WINEMAKING:

Grapes were harvested with a new technology harvest machine early in the morning while the ambient temperatures were still very low and the grapes cool. We harvested at optimum ripeness (between 21° and 23° Balling). Skin contact was allowed for 4 hours at 10°C. Only free-run juice drained by gravity was used for fermentation. The wine is fermented in stainless-steel tanks between 12° and 14°C. After fermentation, the wine matures on its lees for three months before racking and bottling.
