Honouring our farm's architectural legacy: an unrivalled 21 unique Cape Dutch gables.
Besides pouring passion and commitment into every wine that bears our name, we also put a lot into the preservation of our farm’s cultural heritage. The Spier farm has 21 architecturally significant gables – the most on any wine farm in South Africa and all meticulously restored. This passionately made wine is named in honour of these gables.
21 Gables Sauvignon Blanc 2019
"The southwest facing slopes of the Tygerberg in Durbanville are the source of this intense, just off-dry Sauvignon Blanc, which has taken a leaf out of New Zealand's book. Grapefruit and gooseberry flavours are complemented by some appealing leesy weight." - Tim Atkin, MW
21 Gables Cabernet Sauvignon 2016
"Part of a consistently impressive range under the 21 Gables label, this Cabernet is dense, layered and flavoursome. It has the structure to balance its 70% new wood, some tannic backbone and scented blackcurrant pastille and cedarwood notes." - Tim Atkin, MW
21 Gables Chenin Blanc 2018
Dryland, old-vine parcels with an average age of 35 years supply the grapes for this concentrated, overtly wooded Chenin Blanc which shows layers of honey, pear and guava, some tannin and extract from short skin contact and a rich, toasty finish. Drink 2021-24 - Tim Atkin MW
21 Gables Pinotage 2016
"Big, bold, dense and concentrated, especially for a Pinotage, this sees a combination of first and second fill French, American and Hungarian oak and is pretty smoky and toasty at the moment. Give it time, though, because there's also plenty of dark berry and bramble fruit and tannic backbone. 2021-26" - Tim Atkin, MW
