INSIGHTS AND INSPIRATION: UNLEASHING THE POWER OF THE IMAGINATION
The Spier Arts Trust, was established to generate shared value for the makers and buyers of South African art. Through curating art portfolios and managing visual arts projects, the trust facilitates collaboration as well as growth opportunities for visual artists and artisans in South Africa.
Material Gains: Contemporary African Art from the Spier Collection
Material Gains, which opens 25 July at the Stellenbosch University Museum, showcases more than 50 works from Spier’s diverse collection of contemporary art. The pieces are by emerging and established artists working across the African continent – including South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Congo and Nigeria.
Mosaic magic comes to Spier
Eight, Spier’s acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant, has a new neighbour. The next time you come for lunch, arrive a little earlier and pop into the new Spier Artisan Studio – Stellenbosch next door. In this airy, light-filled space, rows of jars containing brightly coloured glass line the walls. In the glow of the chandelier overhead, artisans are quietly at work. They’re using hand-cut mosaic or beads to create, with meticulous precision, interpretations of works by South African fine artists.
