Spier earns seven golds at Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2024, including Best of Show South Africa Red
Patiently and steadily, we continue adding to our growing awards cabinet, garnering a total of seven golds at the recently held 34th international Mundus Vini Spring Tasting 2024. A highlight is the top-tier Spier Creative Block 3 2020 winning "Best of Show South Africa Red". This marks a hat trick for the Stellenbosch wine farm, earning it 'Best in Show' for one of its wines for the third consecutive year. The two previous awards were for its Spier 21 Gables Chenin Blanc, named ‘Best in Show South Africa White in Retail Markets' in 2023 and ‘Best in Show South Africa White’ in 2022. Additionally, Spier's 21 Gables, Seaward, and The Yellowwood organic wines all struck top ratings. These awards span the gamut of styles and price points within the Spier collection, showcasing the winery's commitment to excellence across all its winemaking endeavours.

The Mundus Vini Spring Tasting is a highly regarded international wine competition, drawing entries from around the globe. The six-day tasting saw an impressive number of more than 250 wine experts coming from 55 different countries to the heart of the wine-growing region Pfalz, which is the second largest in Germany. South African received a total of 95 awards, with Spier wines earning 14 in total, bringing home the following gold accolades:

This year's success reinforces Spier's status as an industry beacon, renowned for both its high-quality wines and its leadership in both conventional and organic winemaking. The multi-awarded Creative Block range celebrates Spier's winemaking creativity with white and red Rhône- and Bordeaux-style blends crafted from specially selected vineyard blocks. Launched in 2004, the Creative Block takes its name from a pioneering Spier Arts Trust project that invites established and emerging artists to create work on a small blank canvas block. Each Creative Block is named after the number of varieties used to make up the blend, with the goal of reflecting a true sense of place.
Meanwhile, Spier 21 Gables, including the gold-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage 2019, celebrates Spier's 331-year winemaking heritage and its significant architectural history.
One of the newest additions to the portfolio is Spier Seaward, a celebration of the Cape coastal terroir, which has quickly amassed a flurry of top accolades for its accessible, vibrant wines.
Awarded the Ethical Award by the Drinks Business Green Awards in 2022 and on track to achieve a net-zero carbon footprint by 2030, Spier demonstrates its commitment to cultivating healthy soils and preserving the planet.
Spier will showcase its award-winning wines at ProWein 2024, the world's leading trade fair for wines and spirits, in Düsseldorf, Germany this March.
